Become a Voice on the River Yealm Harbour Authority – Represent Your Community!
Brixton Parish Council is looking for someone to represent them on the River Yealm Harbour Authority — and you don’t need to be a councillor or even live in the parish to apply!If you're passionate about local issues and ready to make a difference, this is your chance.
The role involves attending around 10 meetings a year, held every third Tuesday at 6pm at the Harbour Office (with breaks in August and December). Can’t always make it in person? Zoom attendance is often possible. You’ll be involved in important discussions, especially during the winter months, and may also join occasional sub-committees focused on budgets and staffing.
No specific qualifications are needed — just a willingness to contribute and ideally some experience or interest in areas such as finance, law, health & safety, the environment, small business, or marine matters.

Join Brixton Village Community Speedwatch Team and make a real difference!
This national initiative, run in partnership with Devon & Cornwall Police, empowers volunteers tomonitor vehicle speeds using detection devices, helping to educate drivers and encourage safer
driving.
The goal is to reduce road deaths and injuries, improve quality of life, and raise awareness about
the dangers of speeding.
Volunteers will receive full training.

St. Mary’s Churchyard Update from St. Marys Parochial Church (PCC) and Brixton Parish Council (BPC)Annie Kay and Paul Bassett, the wardens of St. Mary’s PCC, together with District Councillor, Julie Carson and Liz Hitchins, Chairman of BPC met on the 30th July with the Officer from South Hams District Council to discuss the grass cutting arrangements for St. Mary’s churchyard. The following was agreed :- there will be a full cut of the churchyard including the removal of the cut grass in September this year. St. Mary’s PCC and BPC will be discussing detailed plans for the churchyard for 2025 to be agreed with South Hams which will include scheduled full cuts with the removal of the cut grass for February, June, and September and the edges of the older part of the church yard cut monthly from March to September and the grass removed. Additional plans will be drawn up to increase the number of cuts in the newer part of the churchyard and immediately to the north of the church and to identify with the help of a botanist small areas in the older part of the churchyard where wildflowers can be encouraged to grow which will be only cut 3 times a year but will allow access to graves through a series of paths. The intention is to reach a satisfactory balance between having a churchyard which is accessible for families and improving its biodiversity.

Brixton Parish Council has submitted their proposal to South Hams District Council for the modification of the Brixton Neighbourhood Plan, in accordance with the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012 (as amended).South Hams District Council is consulting residents and other interested stakeholders on the modification proposal for the Brixton Neighbourhood Plan.
Consultation will run for a 6 week period : Friday 8th September 2023 to midnight on Friday 20th October 2023
